You remind me of me many years ago My face was smooth and my eyes were wide And I grasped everything that came close to me No concept of poison or injury; so innocent As the years went by, my eyes changed colour Subtly, they were getting tinged with red Red from tears shed over the years From stress and hassles and pains and struggles As the years went by, my face started getting lined From little heartbreaks caused by friends and family Lined from sleepless nights and worrisome days Lined from concentrating on my own business Little baby, as we grow older, we mind our business No wide-eyed curiosity like I saw in your eyes We are wary of strangers and even more wary of friends Little baby, so many grown ups have trust issues I see you now and I am sad that this will change When you grow to be this age, you'll change just like this too And the wonder of innocence will be lost to life's harsh realities I can only hope that life would be kinder to you
